This is another female duo, and they had a brief moment of fame in the mid-2000s. Something notable about Nina Sky is that they identical twin sisters, and neither of them is called Nina! The Albino sisters were in their teens when they began their pop career. Their first single was released in July 2004, which also happens to be the month when I had my 21st birthday, how terrific.
“Move Ya Body” had something of a reggae sound that was rather popular on the chart around this time (two decades ago now, can you believe). This sampled Full Force’s “Can You Feel The Beat” and Cordell Burrell’s “Coolie Dance Rhythm”. They were also accompanied by some rapper who was called Jabba, and shouted over the end. Shout, random rapper man! Shout for our pleasure!
This reached no. 6 in the UK, leading to an appearance on Top Of The Pops, and also made the Top Ten in America, an impressive debut, and it looked like this could be the first of many hits for them. Again, this is a duo who I was rather excited by for a minute or two, and I anticipated their next single, because, there was going to be one after this success wasn’t there?
When their album failed to get anywhere near the Top 100 in the UK, suddenly this looked more unlikely. And indeed, no further hit singles from Nina Sky were forthcoming. I thought it was a shame that they were a one-hit wonder because I enjoyed them. Of course, they continued to work together for many years after this, and I think that they have released two albums.
Taking a look at YouTube, it turns out that they did make plenty more songs, accompanied by various videos, so it was good to find out more about what they have done in the years since their all-too-brief moment. They don’t seem to have done much together in the past decade though, but presumably, as usually happens, they could have a reunion one day. They won’t have many songs to perform though.
